1888 BRYANT & MAY STRIKE LED BY WOMEN WORKERS
This historic fight inspired the major London fights by the Dockers and the Gas Workers in the following year. London Trades Council gave important support.
1976 WOMEN LEAD TRICO STRIKE FOR EQUAL PAY
400 women took on US multinational Trico-Folberth to win equal pay in a 21 week strike. Margaret Witham, GLATC Women’s Officer, was closely involved and organised GLATC support.
1976-78 GRUNWICK FIGHT
The now famous Grunwick Strike of mainly Asian origin workers, the majority being women. The leader was the remarkable Jayaben Desai, and the workers fought for 2 years and mobilised massive support across the trade union movement. Brent Trades Council was closely involved along with GLATC.
